The Lake Charles Fire Department is investigating an early-morning fire that gutted a central Lake Charles home.

The two-alarm fire occurred at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Sixth Street, said Capt. Jeremy LeBlanc.

“We had four fire stations respond, and the fire was quickly extinguished, with no damage to surrounding homes,” LeBlanc said.

The home’s residents — two adults and a child — escaped unharmed, he said.

“The Red Cross assisted the family, and one firefighter was taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation,” LeBlanc said. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
