A Lake Charles man was charged Sunday morning with second-degree murder after an argument with an associate turned deadly, according to authorities.

Levander John Hursey III, 47, has been charged in the death of Michael D. Johnson, 49, said Lake Charles Police Sgt. Mark Kraus.

“Just before 4 a.m., the two men were drinking together and became involved in an argument,” Kraus said. “A fight began, and Hursey hit Johnson several times with a beer bottle.” Kraus said the bottle broke, and Johnson was cut in the neck area. Hursey reportedly called 911 for assistance in a stabbing, and Johnson was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:12 a.m. No bond has been set at the time. Lead ivestigators are Officer Chris Calloura and Detective Lecia McCullough.
